Kyle meets Kaffe Fassett

I went to Wildfiber in Santa Monica, CA last Thursday and met Kaffe Fassett (he was touring signing his latest book) - if you have a chance like this, go see him - spend a few minutes with him; he is inspiring and has lots of fun stories to share (one he told me was about a meeting he had with Elizabeth Zimmerman in a pub outside London) - he told me when she first heard that he was knitting she sent him a set of circular needles and wrote "try these; they'll change your life." -
If you don't have the chance to see him, at least check out his books - they're full of inspiration and when you look hard at what he's doing, it's not really complicated - it just takes time (some patterns a LOT of time) -
Oh - and a note about Wildfiber - what a beautiful store - Natasha there was so nice to me - I want to take some classes there and I'm waiting to see what they have to offer this year - I felt very welcome and "at home" surrounded by so much luxurious yarn - they had tons of Manos del Uruguay and a literal island of noro - it was yarn heaven! I ended up buying 2 skeins of yarn and one of Kaffe's books (his pattern library) - I already own his latest book, so I had him sign these two. What a treat. These books go in my collection next to my Elizabeth Zimmerman signed book - I find inspiration in creative books autographed by their authors - knowing that there's some sort of connection with those people. I like having met Kaffe - and meeting him has inspired me to attempt at least one of the projects in his latest book. I haven't decided which yet (but I think I have narrowed it down to 3) - I'm waiting to be sure which I want to do so that I can slowly acquire the yarn
(wait... I'm supposed to be on a yarn diet, aren't I?!?!)

I'm so happy that you got to meet Kaffe - I was so inspired after his NY appearance - now,if I could only decide which piece of art of his I'd like to create :-)

Forget the yarn diet!!! Having such an inspirational time meeting Kaffe is the best excuse I've ever heard to buy yarn and plan a new project.

Yarn diets don't count when the project is a "pilgrimage". This counts as a pilgrimage.

We hardly ever get celebrities to stop here. Heck, Canadian Idol is even passing by Saskatchewan this year.

I think it's so great that you got to meet Kaffe Fasset! He's a living legend. I've always found him to be so inspiring, or at least his books are. :)

He came to Boston a few years ago...think he did anyway. I now his sweaters did for an exhibit. I wasn't feeling the love at that point so I never went. I have most of his BBC series though so it's cool. I' really happy you got to meet him-what a great person to rub elbows with!

This morning (March 6), Kaffe was shown on a repeat of a 2005 Simply Quilts show! I think he would be a fascinating man! I am jealous.
